Innovation on the global stage
Today marks two years to the day since then Assistant Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, the Hon. Craig Laundy, MP, officially launched the first beta versions of Expert Connect and InnovationMap (with the Innovation Challenges marketplace launching the following year). So it is fitting that this week we launched Innovation Catalyst (IC) Global, unveiling an updated look for the platform suite just in time to showcase it on the world stage at Innovfest Unbound 2019 in Singapore. During the event, Australian Federal Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, the Hon. Karen Andrews, MP, spoke with Unbound CEO and Founder Daniel Seal about the Australian government’s key priority in helping small businesses to engage with researchers and research organisations. Shortly after, Minister Andrews stopped by to see the IC Global team and hear more about how we’re helping in this space.
With the original beta version of Expert Connect built in just 17 weeks, the platform initially featured profiles for around 45,000 researchers from over 200 research organisations. Significant work has happened since then, with over 70,000 researchers now profiled, and a suite of other features added to support the innovation ecosystem.
Of course our work isn’t done, we have a very full Product Roadmap that we’re working through. Key items include:
- Further university engagement – building on productive discussions to date, we’re negotiating access to data feeds directly from universities (to boost the accuracy and completeness of Expert Connect profiles)
- Expanded communication & engagement – the team are actively looking for opportunities to engage with new audiences and drive further awareness of the platform suite. As part of this, we’ll be seeking ambassadors at each university and beyond
- Platform Globalisation – research is a global field, and we’ve had approaches from several countries looking to get involved. Given many of our data sources are already global, this is a natural extension for the platform suite that is currently being pursued.
Collaboration is at the core of IC Global, none of what’s been created would be possible without the support of our partners. IC Global is a joint effort between CSIRO, the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, The Conversation, IP Australia and Clarivate Analytics. Beyond these foundation partners, a further 70 collaborators from across industry, research and government have helped to shape the development and growth of the platform suite to date.
IC Global are seeking a Senior Software Engineer and a Software Engineer to contribute to the design and delivery of the platform suite. This is an opportunity to apply your skills in a complex environment, work across challenges such as entity resolution of international datasets and natural language processing, connect with interesting collaborators across industry, research and government, and have your creative voice heard.
